American Red Cross Seeks SC volunteers for hurricane training
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers in South Carolina help when people have to leave their homes during a hurricane.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Heisler tells the Post and Courier of Charleston that up to 500 people would be needed to staff 22 shelters in the Lowcountry.
So the Red Cross will hold an eight-hour boot camp Wednesday at the organization’s office in North Charleston.
Training will involve interactive case studies and classroom instruction. Participants will also learn how to assist individuals, families and communities in preparing for and recovering from a catastrophe. Part of the training includes dealing with the emotional side of a disaster.
Contact Lisa.Wills@redcross.org or 843-480-4225. Pre-registration is required. Participants must be 18 and older.
