Watch: Attorney: Spring Valley SRO Should Get His Job Back

File
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The lawyer representing the Former Richland County Two School Resource Officer who was seen on video dragging a female Spring Valley High School student in October of 2015, said his client should have his job back.
In a statement released today, Scott Hayes said, “there was clearly a rush to judgement by the public and public officials immediately following the incident.”
No charges were filed against former Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Fields in the case – a case that garnered national attention.
Hayes went on to say, “The evidence in this case clearly establishes the fact that the student’s behavior willfully and unnecessarily interedered and disturbed the students and teachers of her Algebra class…”
“The amount of force used by Fields during the incident was reasonably necessary to bring the student under arrest…” Hayes said.
ABC Columbia reached out to the Richland Two Black Parents Association and have not heard back yet.
Richland Count Sheriff Leon Lott says Fields will not be reinstated. He released this statement in response to Fields request:
” The US Attorney’s Office to my knowledge has not determined if he will be charged with a civil rights violation, he will not be reinstated.”
