RCSD: Student Arrested After Fighting Bus Driver, Off Duty Trooper

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A student has been released into the custody of his parents after allegedly attacking the school bus driver and an off-duty trooper who tried to break up a fight involving the student.

Authorities with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department tell ABC Columbia that they were called to Tamwood Court in Elgin on a call of a fight on a school bus.

Police say the bus driver tried to break up the fight between the 13-year-old and another student, when the bus driver was attacked.

An off-duty trooper who was wearing a ‘Trooper’ shirt, police say, saw what was happening and tried to intervene.

The teen then began fighting the trooper, police say.

When deputies arrived they were able to restrain the teen.

Officials say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
