ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO) – Deputies with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a suspect who they say was attempting to break into a residence on Riverbank Drive while two teen girls were home.

Police say a 24-year-old man was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and is expected to be charged with first-degree burglary.

According to authorities, around 8 a.m. one of the teens called 911 after discovering someone had broken into their home; deputies arrived moments later and spotted the man in the front yard.

The man allegedly fled on foot but witnesses pointed out a wooded area the man entered.

The combined information from a probation, parole and pardon agent and the tracking of OCSO K9 Duke led to a Laurel Hill residence where a man was located hiding in an attic.

“The really scary part about this is two teenage girls were at home while school was out for the hurricane,” he said. “Possessions can be replaced but these young ladies were at home when this individual broke in.”
