Today’s Forecast
Hurricane Matthew Update: I wish I had better news, but unfortunately the news is not good. We were hoping that Matthew would track farther out to sea, but indications are that it will hug the coast. That means higher storm surge at the beaches – as high as 10 feet. That means worse flooding as the ocean water gets pushed ashore. It also means stronger winds at the coast and all the way inland, as well as more rain farther inland. Bottom line: we all need to be prepared for a significant impact from this storm. The most intense part of the storm will be from roughly 3AM Saturday to 3PM Saturday. In there expect up to 10 inches of rain near I-95 and up to 6 inches of rain here in Columbia. That will cause flooding. And the wind will gust to 65 mph near I-95 with gusts to 55 near Columbia. So expect widespread power outages.
