COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– SLED Chief Robert Keels says patrols are out in the damaged counties and the coastal areas hit hardest by Hurricane Mathew and the floods.

Keel says SLED teams are patrolling river areas that have been evacuated due to flooding, they are on the ground, in the water, 24 hours a day to prevent looting and crime in areas where homes are empty right now.

Keel says in Georgetown they have patrols conducting security and traffic.

Keel says in Florence county they are also providing assistance to DNR for river patrols, in addition they have aerial teams monitoring near the Litte Pee Dee and Waccamaw River.

DNR says it expects the Pee Dee River to crest in the 24 -48 hours. But it could be 7 to 10 days before the Waccamaw River crests.
