Consumer officials say there have been cases where thieves have used a child’s social security number for as long as a decade, racking up a lengthy and messy credit history, before they even turn 16.

The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs says identity thieves are more likely to target children.
Kids are not supposed to have a credit report, so why would you look for it?

“To have a service out there, I think a lot of parents would take advantage of it just to have that security and know their kids are okay.”
