Temporary Road Closures in Irmo at Kennerly Road

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Get ready for a change in your commute as your tax dollars are put to work.

The Penny Tax Project in Richland County is currently working on construction in the Irmo area near Kennerly Road.

Detours are now underway in the following areas say County Officials.

Temporary road closure for Kennerly Road and Coogler Road to begin on November 9 and end on November 22. The closures are necessary to continue the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Kennerly, Coogler and Steeple Ridge Roads in Northwest Richland County. While the intersection is closed, Kennerly Road traffic will be detoured along Hollingshed Road and Coogler Road traffic will be detoured along Koon Road and Connie Wright Road to access Kennerly Road.
The intersection project at Kennerly, Coogler and Steeple Ridge Roads is the fourth of six intersection improvements to begin this year under a contract awarded via the Richland County Transportation Penny Program to C.R. Jackson Construction Company, a Columbia owned construction contractor. Construction began on the Kennerly Road intersection on August 25 and is scheduled to be substantially completed by March of next year. The existing intersection will be reconstructed into a roundabout which will significantly improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection. By closing the intersection during this two week period, it will allow work to be accelerated so that the roundabout will be functioning prior to the winter paving season.
