ROCKY BOTTOM, S.C. (AP) – Officials say a wildfire burning in the mountains of South Carolina is more under control than in previous days.

Mike Bozzo of the S.C. Forestry Commission says the 2,300-acre Pinnacle Mountain fire is now 25 percent contained.

Firefighters used bulldozers to construct fire lines Sunday. Sprinkler systems have also been installed along portions of the South Saluda River to help hold the fire in that area.

Plans for Monday include extending the fire line and scouting locations on the east side where fire lines can be constructed closer to the fire’s edge. On the west side, crews will conduct burnout operations to connect fire lines.

About 140 personnel are assigned to the fire.
