Police: Manhunt for Escapee ends at Midlands School

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The search for a prison escapee, suspected of stabbing a Columbia Police officer, ended near a Midlands School Thursday, say police.

ABC Columbia’s Crysty Vaughan has more on the manhunt and capture.

After more than 12 hours on the run, police say the manhunt for an escapee suspected of stabbing an officer ended at a midlands school.

Interview “An rso at meadow glen middle school was notified by a parent that a suspect person in all black walking. She immediately called notified the patrol division. At that time the patrol division did respond to the area.”

Lexington Police say an officer spotted 47 year old Michael Williamson on Northside Blvd, Williamson ran, say police, and ended up at Northside Christian academy.

“He ran towards the school, grabbing a hold of the school doors, pulling on them at which time she was able to take him into custody.”

Williamson is suspected of stabbing Columbia Police officer Ashley Hardesty, Wednesday night at the Bush River Walmart. Police say she tried to detain him for shoplifting

Interview:  “She’s resting comfortably. She’s aware that the suspect is in custody and she’s pretty upbeat. It’s pretty inspiring being around a young officer and she demonstrated so much courage yesterday and she’s ready to get right back in the fight.”
