Upstate man pledges to keep Betty White safe from 2016
A Go Fund Me page raises money to protect Betty - or give money to Spartanburg Little Theatre
SPARTANBURG SC (WOLO) – 2016 has been a rough year on celebrities. It’s a year that has claimed David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince, Alan thicke, Leonard Cohen, Nancy Reagan, George Michael, and on Tuesday, Carrie Fisher.
In an effort to protect another national treasure, an Upstate man has created a Go Fund Me campaign to protect Betty White over the remaining few days of 2016. The page, started by Demetrios Hrysikos, starts with the headline “Help Protect Betty White from 2016.”
Hrysikos has set a goal of $2000.00, and has offered to “fly wherever Betty White is and keep her safe till January 1, 2017.” Hrysikos goes on to say on his Go Fund Me Page, that in the event that White doesn’t want a “strange Greek standing guard outside her door,” he will donate the money to the Spartanburg Little Theatre to “help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry the mantle of the legends that have left this year.”
Comments on the Go Fund Me Page praise Hrysikos for his campaign.
On his Facebook page, Hrysikos says that the idea came to him after the Tuesday passing of Carrie Fisher. He goes on to say that he has no direct tie to White or the Theatre he has pledged the money to, other than a friend who works there.
In less than 12 hours, the Help Protect Betty White from 2016 page has collected well over $1500, with some donating as much as $100 at a time.
