COLUMBIA SC (WOLO) – Reaching back to his German childhood, Gerard Lin and his wife Erin created the Wurst Wagen on 2012, offering authentic German dishes to the Midlands.  “There is a large German heritage and presence in Columbia,” says Lin, who is from the village of Seigsdorf in Bavaria, Germany.  Lin goes on to say that after he and his wife spent time traveling in the European country.

Lin brought some of his favorites to share with the Good Morning Columbia team, including tomato salad, made simple with fresh tomatoes, parsley, onions, and apple vinegar.  The ingredients are simply mixed together, and served.

Cucumber salad is another simple healthy idea.  Lin says combining cucumber, onion, parsley, oil, salt, and heavy whip cream is all you need to create this authentic German favorite.

Lin also explained the background of the staple food of Germany, the schnitzel.

Lin explains that the schnitzel is thinly sliced pork loin.  Lin suggests that the pork is pounded out and tenderized, then breaded, using flour, bread crumbs and an egg wash.  The schnitzel is  then flash fried in oil, and enjoyed.
