Local Church Helps Refugees Through International Ministry
You Can Help By Volunteering
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)- The International Ministry at First Baptist Church in Columbia is dedicated to helping people from other countries. Reverend Ryan Dupree said the ministry seeks to make the newcomers feel welcome.
“They come to a strange world when they come here and we just want to show them that they have a family, people that actually care for them and want them to succeed here in our nation and to help meet whatever needs that we have and we’re able to,” said Dupree.
The ministry works with students, refugees and other immigrants from around the world, including some from the seven countries impacted by President Trump’s travel ban. With the growing concern for refugees, Dupree said the international ministry may be a way for people to put their words into action.
“I’m always looking for volunteers within our church and so forth of people who are called to basically hit the foreign mission field right here in their backyard.”
