Sheriff: Career Criminal Led Deputy on 115 MPH Chase

Patricia Stradford Reed
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A sheriff’s deputy in Kershaw County was led on a high speed chase early Wednesday morning by a 56-year-old woman who authorities say has a lengthy criminal history.
Patricia Stradford Reed of Camden, is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driving left of center and possession of an open container of beer or wine in a moving vehicle.
Authorities say Reed reached speeds of 115 mph while driving with at least three other people in the van.
The deputy recognized the van to be the same one the he attempted to stop a week earlier, authorities say.
Reed allegedly crossed the center line of the highway and pulled into a convenience store located on US 1 in east Camden and sped away as the deputy approached the vehicle. One person jumped out of the van while it was moving.
During the 22 minute chase, Reed allegedly led the deputy through rural parts of Kershaw County into Lee County and ended when she turned down a dead end road.
Authorities say the two other people in the van were released and no charges will be filed.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said Reed’s arrest record dates back to 1978.
Matthews said her charges include: multiple larceny, shoplifting and resisting arrest charges, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, criminal domestic violence, furnishing contraband to county prisoners, escape attempt, giving false information and unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon.
Reed remains in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
