Claflin Baseball Falls to Florida Southern

Orangeburg, S.C. (Claflin) — Florida Southern College defeated Claflin University 17-1 in an NCAA Division II non-conference baseball game Friday at Historic Mirmow Field.

The loss dropped Claflin to 1-8 on the season, while Florida Southern improved to 6-2.

The two teams will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. in Game Two of their three-game series.

The Panthers, which collected seven hits in the game, were led by Johnathan Parnell, II with three hits. He produced Claflin’ s first hit of the game, a double in the first inning.

Darrell Langston added a pair of hits for the Panthers that include a double in the second inning. He later scored off the extra base hit on a ground out by Jethro Brown.

The Moccasins tagged four Panther pitchers for 19 hits. Leading Florida Southern at the plate was Cody Burgess with three home runs and 6 RBIs. Mitch Reeves was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3, with a pair of home runs and 3 RBIs.

Logan Browning, 2-1, was the winning pitcher for the Moccasins.

Eric Dubose, 0-2, suffered the loss for Claflin.
