Claflin Earns No. 1, 2 Seeds in 2017 SIAC Basketball Tournament

ATLANTA, GA. (Claflin) — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) today announced the pairings for the 2017 SIAC Basketball Tournament. The Tournament, which will run February 27-March 4, will be held at the Bill Harris Arena inside the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala.

The Claflin University men’s team will enter tournament play with the No. 1 seed in the East Division, while the women will enter with the No. 2 seed in the East Division.

Claflin men, 17-9 overall and 12-5 SIAC record, finished the regular season in a three-way tie for first in the East with Clark Atlanta and Benedict.  By virtue of a tie-breaker, the Panthers earned the top seed and will receive a bye in the first-round.

The Panthers will play the winner of Kentucky State (No. 4 Seed in the West)/Fort Valley State (No. 5 Seed in the East) on Wednesday, March 1 at 3:15 p.m.

The Claflin women will take a 14-11 overall and 9-6 conference record into tournament play.  The No. 2 seed is the highest seed for the Lady Panthers under Coach Deont’a McChester, who is in his fourth season.

Claflin women will also receive a bye in the first round and will face the Lane (No. 3 seed in the West)/Clark Atlanta (No. 6 seed in the East) on Thursday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m.
