Driver Arrested in Connection with Hit and Run Deaths of Two SC DOT Workers

AIKEN, SC (WOLO)– The SC Highway Patrol says it has made an arrest in connection with the hit and run deaths of two SC DOT workers and the injury of a third worker.

According to the SC Department of Public Safety, Lonnie Dean Miller is facing numerous charges, including two counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death and one count injury.

Miller was taken into custody Monday afternoon.

Investigators say the fatal collision happened around 8: 30 a.m. on SC 421 in Aiken County, and involved three SCDOT employees.

The SCDOT identified the fatal victims as 54-year-old Anthony J. Redmond and 64-year-old Robert Clark, both transportation employees.

In a statement, Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall said in part: “Our SCDOT family has suffered the loss of two of our team members this morning…”
