Severe Weather Hits the Midlands

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Severe weather hit the Midlands on Monday afternoon, several tornado watches and warnings were issued during the height of the storm.

Around 5pm a Tornado Warning moving south of Gilbert moving ENE around 40mph toward Red Bank was indicated on Doppler. Shortly before 6pm a Tornado warning was issued for Sumter.

Around the Midlands, Lexington county dealt with some downed trees and power lines.

In West Columbia, police were managing traffic issues due to water on the roads and power outages.

Downtown Columbia experienced flooding in the streets near Whaley and Assembly which caused some minor issues.
