Dog Found Chained, Dragged, Burned; Reward Offered
AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a case in which a dog was found burned and wrapped in chains near a driveway off Highway 17 in Awendaw.
According to an incident report provided by the sheriff’s office, firefighters responding Tuesday at around 5 p.m. had to carefully extinguish flames as to not disturb the crime scene.
Responding deputies reported the dog was deceased and looked like it had been dragged down the road and then set on fire. The report states tight-fitting chains were wrapped around its muzzle, torso and legs.
The sheriff’s office is asking the public’s help in identifying the suspects who a witness told deputies may be between 12-15 years of age.
The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for killing the dog, Coastal Pain Care of North Charleston says it is offering an additional $1,000 reward. PetHelpers announced Wednesday it is also offering a $1,000 reward, bringing the pledged total to $7,000.
