Benedict Advances to Men’s Tennis Championship with 5-0 Win over LeMoyne-Owen

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (Benedict) – The Benedict College men’s tennis team, the two-time SIAC defending champions, advanced to the 2017 championship match with a 5-0 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College on Tuesday.

Benedict will face Morehouse in the championship match at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

The Tigers had a 3-0 lead after doubles play as Nathaniel Pinkney and Quentin Eloise teamed together and took down Cody Goins and Casey Greer 8-1 in the top position. Armando Flores and Juan Hernandez paired together and used an 8-3 win to top Taylor Rubin and Jordan Morris at No. 2 doubles. Benedict won the final doubles match by default.

In singles action, Benedict picked up another forfeit victory at No. 6 singles. The Tigers clinched the match when Hernandez swept Aric Bady by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth spot.

Benedict and Morehouse split their two matches during the regular season. Morehouse won the first meeting 5-2 in Columbia. Benedict took a 9-0 victory in their second meeting on March 31 in Mobile, Ala.
