COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia is starting a new program that will match members of law enforcement with the children and families the organization currently serves.

“Bigs in Blue” is a one-to-one mentoring program rolling out in Richland and Lexington Counties.

“The Bigs in Blue program is a chance to connect local law enforcement with the children and families that we both serve,” said Amanda Nemenz, President and CEO. “While this program provides an opportunity to bridge communication gaps and mentor youth, it also provides the chance for our “Bigs” and “Littles” to better understand and appreciate each other’s roles and personal challenges.”

BBBSGC is accepting applications from the Columbia Police and Fire Department. It’s looking for other interested members with a law enforcement or firefighter profession to join the program as a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister”. For more information, click here.
