Laid off Workers React to Halt of Nuclear Reactor Construction

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The halt of construction on two nuclear reactors at the VC Summer Plant in Jenkinsville has resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs.

Santee Cooper board members voted unanimously to stop working on the nuclear units, that could have produced clean energy in our area.

SCANA also decided to halt construction.

ABC Columbia news caught up with laid off workers who are reacting to the decision.

In statement, SCE&G wrote, “We recognize the impact of this decision on customers, employees, and the communities we serve. SCE&G will be implementing a plan for easing the transition for employees and other parties affiliated with the site work.”
