U.S. Dept. of Labor Approves Grant for Hurricane Harvey Relief

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOLO) – The U.S. Department of Labor has approved an initial $10 million grant to help with cleanup and recovery efforts in Texas.

“The American workforce—along with our volunteers and first responders—is the greatest in the world,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta. “Together, we will recover and rebuild Southeast Texas. The Department of Labor is here to help ensure the safety and stability of Texans along the way.”

The National Dislocated Worker Grant is being awarded to the Texas Workforce Commission, a body meant to assist the state in determining its workforce needs in the aftermath of disaster. The money will be distributed to impacted counties to boost state and local recovery efforts.

The Department of Labor said it will continue monitoring the situation.
