Irma Update: SC DNR To Send Crews to Florida for Search and Rescue Aid

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Officials with the SC Department of Natural Resources say they are sending  50 members at the request of the Florida Fish and Wildlife for the purpose of Hurricane Irma search and rescue efforts.

The SC DNR officers will head to Florida Tuesday morning. They are expected to join game wardens from multiple fish and wildlife agencies, along with law enforcement and military, in searching rural floodwaters for survivors and conducting security patrols.

  Officials say they will assemble in Orlando to meet with Florida game wardens for briefing and will then head to the areas in which they are needed.

There is no word on how long  SC DNR officers will remain in Florida.
