Teen Arrested for Murder in Trash Can Body

Richland County, SC (WOLO) —

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says they have made an arrest in the murder of a woman whose remains were discovered thrown in a trash can.

Authorities say,  17 year old Kendall Smith has been taken into custody accused of hitting 44 year old Leona Pack multiple times in the upper body with an unknown object leaving her for dead.

According to Deputies, the altercation began as a fight between family members inside a home, but say when Pack left the home, deputies believe Smith followed the her outside to the 66 hundred block of Two Notch Road where he confronted and then allegedly beat her.

7 days later her body was discovered in a nearby trash receptacle by a worker cleaning the area.

Smith is currently being held in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
