TAMPA, FLA. (WOLO) — Will Muschamp and the Gamecocks have a little less than three weeks to prep for Michigan in this year’s Outback Bowl on January 1 in Tampa.
Michigan provides the biggest challenge defensively for Carolina this season, ranking third in the country in total defense (allowing just 268.6 yards per game).
The Wolverines also rank 7th nationally in total sacks, getting to the quarterback an average of 3.25 times per game, an issue Carolina has struggled with this season. (USC ranks 78th in the country in sacks allowed.)
Offensively, Michigan’s quarterback position has been a revolving door. After sustaining a concussion against Ohio State, Brandon Peters — a freshman — will get the start against Carolina.
Wilton Speight, the starter at the beginning of the season, plans to transfer out of the program.
