Claflin falls to Clark Atlanta in SIAC road game
Atlanta, Ga. – The Claflin University men’s basketball team dropped its second straight road game falling to Clark Atlanta, 97-82, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road contest in front of a crowd of 878 inside Epps Gym.
The loss drops the Panthers to 17-3 overall and 10-2 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta improves to 18-1 overall and 12-0 in the SIAC.
Triston Thompson led three Claflin players in double-figures tying a game-high with 20 points. Jaleel Charles scored 13 points and Timothy Christian, II dropped in 10 for the Panthers in the loss.
Charles and Austin Lawton led the team on the boards with seven rebounds each.
Jalen Mitchell and Mark Burton led Clark Atlanta with 20 points each. Akil Douglas, Anthony Williams and Jamal Pollydore also scored in double-figures with 15, 14, and 12, respectively.
Williams recorded a double-double for Clark Atlanta pulling in a game-high 14 rebounds.
For the game, the Panthers shot 48.4 percent from the field (26.9 from three-point range) while Clark Atlanta finished the game shooting 46.9 percent from the field (53.1 from three-point range).
Claflin led by one at the half, 36-35.
The Panthers will return home on Saturday (Jan. 27) when they host Fort Valley State University in a SIAC East Division game.
