Update: Missing 4-year found in Alabama, suspect arrested in Mississippi

UPDATE (10:00 p.m.)(WOLO, WCIV) – Authorities confirmed that Thomas Lawton Evans, the suspect in the case of the missing four-year-old from South Carolina, has been taken into custody. He was arrested in Mississippi Wednesday night.

UPDATE (9:00 p.m.) – Authorities have released a name and picture of a suspect in the case of the missing four-year-old found safe in Alabama.

The sketch of a person of interest released earlier Wednesday (2/14) with tattoos on his face should be disregarded. A BOLO has been issued for Thomas Lawton Evans, 37.

CHARLESTON, SC (WOLO) (WCIV)–According to police in Charleston the missing 4 year old Heidi Todd has been found alive and safe. Wednesday evening, authorities say they found the little girl just safe in Birmingham, Alabama. Wednesday authorities released a sketch of a man they’re only calling a person of interest in the disappearance of the 4-year old.

Police say the person of interest in her disappearance has facial tattoos, describing them as a lightning bolt and a flame.

Charleston Police Interim Chief Jerome Taylor and Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said Wednesday the incident appears to be related to a home invasion.

Charleston Police say the 4-year-old’s mother is at a local hospital after Tecklenburg said the mother was brutally beaten, but is in fair condition.

The mother had four other children, two of whom were in the home at the time, according to Tecklenburg. The other children were unhurt, police say.
