Columbia, SC (WOLO) — Judges in South Carolina and California are taking an unprecedented step in shutting down cell phones in prisons.

The order requires cell phone carriers to shut down close to 2- hundred phones used by inmates to conduct crimes.
California’s Corrections Department says it’s the first time that prison officials have obtained warrants requiring the mass shut down of contraband phones.
