The shooting happened in a subdivision off Hoffmeyer Road, north of Interstate 20 and west of Interstate 95.

According to officials, two officers arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. attempting to serve a search warrant to a residence at Village Place. The officers were unaware of the firepower the suspect had, according to Nunn.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the home and had the advantage as, according to Nunn, the officers were aware of children inside the home at the time of the shooting. Those children have now been confirmed safe.

Of the injured, some were taken to the McLeod Regional Medical Center for treatment while others were taken to the Carolina’s Hospital System.

According to Florence County Emergency Management, the active shooting situation ended at approximately 6 p.m. and a suspect was taken into custody.

Officials are still requesting that people stay away from the scene of the incident while they are conducting an investigation.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is helping work crime scene and local agencies across the state are coordinating with law enforcement in Florence County to help in any way they can.

There is still no word on the condition of the injured deputies or officers.
