Live Update: Timothy Jones Death Penalty Trial
LEXINGTON, SC (WOLO)– Opening statements in the Capital Murder case against Timothy Jones are expected to begin Tuesday afternoon.
ABC Columbia’s Tim Scott has been tracking the trial from the beginning.
He has this report from the courthouse in Lexington County.
A jury of 10 women and eight men will hear the opening arguments from the defense and prosecution.
After a two week jury selection process, in which the pool was shortened from 200 to 50 to 18, the jurors will hear testimony from nearly 250 witnesses.
Jones was arrested and charged with the murder of his five children, back in 2014. If he is found guilty, the same jury will hear testimony to determine if he will be sentenced to death or to life in prison.
