SCDMV releasing new trackable, temporary tags

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (WOLO) – The SC Department of Motor Vehicles announced new trackable, temporary license plates on SC vehicles that directly ties to its owner.

Each trackable, temporary license plate will have a unique alpha-numeric code that will be tied to the purchaser of the vehicle and will be issueed when the vehicle is sold.

The numerals represent the date on when the plate will expire and the alpha characters will differentiate one car care owner from another.

This trackable, temporary license plate will become mandatory for all newly-purchased vehicles on November 11, 2019.

Trackable, temporary plates will not apply to mopeds or commercial motor vehicles.

The temporary plate will immediately become invalid once the driver receives their permanent, metal plate.
