Sheriff: Woman’s body found in SC ravine; man in custody
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) – A man is in custody after a woman’s body was found in a ravine.
News outlets report Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says the body was found Thursday in a wooded area behind a home in Gaffney.
Sheriff Steve Mueller says 42-year-old Marshall Depree Lee is in custody and being held on a murder charge. Mueller says Lee confessed to being involved in the woman’s death, and that the alleged crime happened at his home.
Lee is being held in the county detention center. It was unknown if Lee is represented by an attorney, who could speak on his behalf.
Authorities say the victim may have been reported missing from the Charlotte area several days ago. Investigators are awaiting an autopsy and positive identification from Fowler.
