Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–Monday afternoon the SC Department of Natural Resources announced the portion of Garners Ferry Rd. in Richland County from the intersection with US Highway 601 to the Wateree River is now known as the “Lieutenant Ulysses Flemming Memorial Highway.”

Flemming joined SCDNR in 1970 as its first African American game warden before ultimately retiring in 2009.

Officials  say he passed away on 2013 before being posthumously inducted into the SC Law Enforcement Hall of Fame in 2018.
