SC for Ed cancels Monday protest at State House
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– SC for Ed says it has canceled Monday’s protest at the State House due to what it calls threatening messages.
In a statement the group says it has received ‘harassing and threatening messages from groups with extreme views about masking who falsely believed the protest was mask related’.
The group says instead of a protest at the State House Monday May 17, they are asking supporters of Education to take Monday for local advocacy, including activities on the groups ‘Enough ‘ bingo card on its social media platforms.
Last week the group announced the “Enough is Enough” protest.
This came after Governor Henry McMaster’s executive order lifting ordinances on masks, but SC for Ed says the point of the protest was not simply about masks.
A post on the group’s Facebook page read, in part “the point is that was the last straw in a year where we’ve been treated horribly, and if we don’t stand up and say you have to make changes or you won’t have any teachers left.”
