COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The University of South Carolina has announced plans to freeze tuition for the 2022-23 academic year.

This is the fourth year that the university has held tuition at the same rate.

Officials say on the Columbia campus, undergraduate tuition will remain $6,344 for in-state resident students and $16,964 for non-resident students.

However, they also say most students will pay less based on widely available need and merit-based scholarships.

Interim President Harris Pastides says “announcing tuition costs this fall instead of June, when university budgets are usually finalized, will help students and families better plan for the future.”

He continued by saying the pandemic has led to budget uncertainty and hopes that the university can “give some comfort to current and future students that we recognize these challenges and that our institution is committed to offering affordable degree programs.”
