DHEC: Shellfish harvesting beds reopening in Georgetown and Charleston
DHEC announced plans to reopen Georgetown and Charleston county’s shellfish harvesting beds on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— DHEC announced plans to reopen Georgetown and Charleston county’s shellfish harvesting beds on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
The two areas back in business are Shellfish Management Area 05 (North Inlet and Winch Bay) and Shellfish Management Area 10A (Folly Beach, Sol Legare Island, and Morris Island).
Officials say two other shellfish management areas will remain closed until water quality data shows suitable bacteria levels for shellfish harvesting.
These include Shellfish Management Area 04 (Murrells Inlet in Georgetown County) and Shellfish Management Area 11 (Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, and Stone River in Charleston County).
