Richland District One released a statement regarding the arrest of a former Columbia High School employee by authorities.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— Richland District One released a statement regarding the arrest of a former Columbia High School employee by authorities.

Earlier today, The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of a former school employee on sexual battery charges.

Joshua Curenton, 29, a former Columbia High School secretary was arrested, accused of having inappropriate communication with minors, say officials.

Curenton was charged with Solicitation of a Minor, two counts of Disseminating Obscene Materials to a Minor, two counts of Sexual Battery with a Student and two counts of Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor.

The district’s spokesperson states, “We were notified by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department that a former Columbia High School employee was arrested today and charged in connection with allegations that he had inappropriate contact with students. We are fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Department on their investigation and will continue to provide any information and assistance needed, including as they work to identify any other potential victims.”

Curenton was terminated from his post on Dec. 14.
