Newberry Sheriff’s Office arrest two men on multiple drug, weapon charges
The Newberry County Sheriff's Office says two individuals have been arrested for trafficking drugs.
NEWBERRY, S.C. (WOLO)—The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says two individuals have been arrested for trafficking drugs.
James Bernard Darby, 36, and Angelo Santell Ruff, 35, were arrested on multiple drug and weapon charges say authorities.
Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop on Highway 121 at Belfast Road on Feb. 7 after seeing Darby operating a vehicle. The deputy had prior knowledge that his license was suspended.
When Darby stopped the vehicle, the passenger, Ruff, ran on foot and Darby fled in the vehicle, according to officials. The deputy took Ruff into custody. He was in possession of assorted drugs, along with money, and guns.
While searching for the vehicle, Darby was seen by a deputy walking near Bess St. and subsequently detained. The vehicle he fled in was found nearby and was discovered to be stolen out of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C., say authorities.
Darby, who is presently on Community Supervision for Attempted Murder, is being charged with Driving with a Suspended Drivers License, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Possession of a Weapon/Ammo by a Person Convicted of a Violent Crime, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana 2nd Offense, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Trafficking Heroin, Trafficking Ecstasy 2nd Offense, Trafficking Methamphetamine 2nd Offense, and Trafficking Crack Cocaine 2nd Offense.
The suspects are being detained at the Newberry County Detention Center pending the service of warrants.
