Richland Co., S.C. (WOLO)– New details in a Sunday night shooting that left one person dead.
Richland County deputies say 14 year old Cyrus Belton was shot outside of the Shell gas station on Springtree Dr. around 8pm.
During a news conference Monday afternoon Sheriff Leon Lott announced Belton was shot by the store’s owner, Rick Chow, after he thought the teen was stealing bottled water.
Lott says Chow is facing charges in connection to the death and is in custody at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Sheriff Lott says this is a tragedy that could have been avoided.
