Midlands Tech break ground on new outdoor welding lab

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The staff at Midlands Technical College broke ground on a new outdoor welding lab Thursday morning (October 29).

Officials say the outdoor setting will help prepare students for real-life scenarios and environments.

It will be located directly next to the college’s existing Welding Technology Center.

According to professors, welders are in increasingly high demand specifically as more businesses come to South Carolina.

Because of this, they add that welding students are typically hired right after graduation.

The project is made possible through a $1.1 million grant from the Truist Foundation.
