COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)—The Lexington Police Department is handing out free fans for those looking to cool down this summer.

The initiative is part of “Operation: Cool Down,” a program that assists over 150 individuals or families each year.

The box-style fans will be offered exclusively to Lexington residents, but you can contact your local police department or sheriff’s department to see if they have a similar program.

Donations are also accepted through the Lexington Police Department Foundation. The in-kind donation form includes a tax identification number for tax purposes.

Visit the Lexington Police Department at 111 Maiden Lane from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a fan.

An officer may be available to bring a box fan to a residence if that individual has transportation issues, say officials.
