Lexington County coroner identifies body found at Motel 6
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C.(WOLO)– The Lexington County coroner said the body found in an abandoned room at Motel 6 on Burning Tree Drive on August 14, 2023, shortly after 07:00 p.m. in Lexington County has been identified.
According to Coroner Margaret Fisher, the man has been identified as Anthony Wayne McCullough, 49, of Columbia.
McCullough was identified through DNA analysis after tips received from friends and a possible family member, said the coroner’s office.
The coroner’s office said McCullough had been dead in the motel room for approximately two to three weeks before being discovered by a passerby searching for a friend.
On August 16, 2023, an autopsy was performed that found the final cause of death was a multi-drug overdose which included methamphetamines and fentanyl.
His death was ruled as accidental.
The motel had been closed permanently since March 1, 2023, and has since been demolished.
