Deputies: suspicious package contained white powder, fuse hole

Richland Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Richland Co. deputies say they responded to a suspicious package around 10:30 Thursday morning on the 16000 block of Garners Ferry Rd. toward Eastover on a bridge leading into Sumter Co.

Investigators say the bomb squad responded and traffic was blocked in the east and westbound lanes and construction workers in the area were evacuated.

According to deputies the bomb squad’s investigation revealed the object did contain a small amount of unknown white powder and had a fuse hole on it.

Deputies say the object was secured and taken for further investigation.

The area is now secure and traffic is flowing in both directions.
