Three men, juvenile accused of burglarizing RCSD workout facility

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Three men and a 17-year-old girl were arrested in connection with breaking and entering and burglary at the Richland Mall, said Richland County deputies.

Deputies say they responded to the mall in reference to a possible break-in around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.

Once deputies arrived at the mall they saw a suspicious vehicle near an exterior door where four people were detained as they were attempting to leave the mall, say deputies.

After further investigation, it was found that the four suspects had burglarized a workout facility that belonged to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

“These four people had no reason to do what they did, when you break into another location that does not belong to you, there will be real consequences. This was not a good idea,” said Sheriff Leon Lott.

Detectives say all four people were found with a variety of tools that included flashlights, a sledgehammer, a baseball bat, a knife, and gloves.

It was found that the individuals, who call themselves urban explorers, pried open a fence-like structure to get inside the workout facility to steal items, say the sheriff’s department.
