SENATE DISTRICT 19: Candidates speak to voters ahead of next month’s special election
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — After Senator John Scott passed away earlier this year, it has forced District 19 to hold a special election to fill the seat.Â
Tuesday night, the four candidates running for senator spoke to voters at a forum held on the Columbia campus of Lenoir-Rhyne.
Former councilwoman and Democratic nominee faces off against Republican candidate Kizzie Smalls for the open District 19 Senate seat.Â
Monday at a forum, Smalls spoke about the reasons why she decided to run.
Two other candidates are running as independents, Chris Nelums and Michael Addison.
The four candidates were asked a series of questions on issues such as raising the minimum wage.
Independent candidate Michael Addison spoke about changing the way judges are chosen… saying they should be elected instead.
All candidates were also asked about other issues such as censorship, healthcare and education.Â
District 19 voters will head to the polls to elect a new senator on January 2nd.
