Benedict football coach leaving for SC State, according to reports
Benedict head football coach Chennis Berry is expected to take the open South Carolina State job, according to multiple reports Thursday.
Berry will replace former SC State coach Buddy Pough, who retired at the end of this season after 22 years as the head coach of the Bulldogs.
Berry went 27-7 over his three seasons with the Tigers, leading Benedict to back-to-back SIAC championships the last two seasons. He was also named the Region 2 Coach of the Year by the AFCA for the second-straight season.
Prior to Benedict, Berry served as the offensive coordinator at Southern from 2013-19.
An official announcement is expected Thursday.
