HUD: 2023 report shows homelessness in U.S. jumped to record level

(CNN)– Homelessness in the U.S. hit a record high this year.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s report shows more than 650 thousand people experienced homelessness on a single night in January.

That’s a 12% increase from the previous year.

It is also the highest number of people experiencing homelessness since reporting began in 2007.

The data shows that families with children made up nearly 30% of those who were homeless.

Which is a 16% increase over the previous year.
