Today – The Earth at its Closest Distance From the Sun

The distance that the Earth is from the sun varies some because the orbit is slightly oval-shaped.  Today is the Earth’s closest distance from the sun.  We are farthest from the sun in early July.  The Earth’s tilt is a much bigger influence on the intensity of the sun’s rays that reach the Earth’s surface.  That’s what causes the seasons.
