More details released in I-126 chase that left man dead

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– New details have emerged in the I-126 chase that left a man dead after he drove into traffic on Friday afternoon, says RCSD.

According to an incident report, a Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputy was on the way to a special assignment, when an undercover Lexington County Sheriff’s deputy was looking for a wanted suspect, Byron Pringle, who was traveling into Richland County.

Deputies attempted to stop him when he fled which led to a chase where he hit multiple vehicles and crashed head-on into another vehicle on the highway.

He was pronounced dead at the scene while the a victim was taken to a hospital.

Deputies say they found small bags of a white powdery substance in Pringle’s car and in his hand.

The crash remains under investigation.
